Tokyo is the English name for the city of Tokyo, which is the capital of Japan. It is located in the central part of the Kanto Plain, facing Tokyo Bay. Tokyo is an international metropolis and serves as the central city of the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, one of the three major metropolitan areas in Japan. The term “capital” refers to the political center of a country and the location of the central government. In 1927, the government of the Republic of China established its capital in Nanjing and referred to it as the “capital.” Since then, China has consistently used this term to refer to its political center.
