It is a key member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and one of the 24 member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The Philippines is classified as a developing country, an emerging industrial nation, and one of the emerging markets in the world. According to the Paris Treaty of 1898, the Washington Treaty of 1900, and the Anglo-American Treaty of 1930, the western boundary of the Philippine territory is the 118th meridian east longitude.
