To express a negative meaning in English, there are three possibilities: using the negation form of a verb to be (am, is, are, was, were); using the negation form of modal verbs (can, must, should); using the negation form of auxiliary verbs (do, does, did). If there is a verb to be in the sentence, simply add “not” after the verb to be.
