To pass the college English Test Band 4 (CET-4), students need to achieve a score of 425 or above. The CET-4 is a nationwide English proficiency examination administered by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education. It primarily targets undergraduate and graduate students who have completed the college English curriculum according to the syllabus.
Preparation for the standardized CET-4 and CET-6 (College English Test Band 6) exams commenced at the end of 1986, and official implementation began in 1987. The main aim of the CET-4 is to ensure the effective implementation of the college English curriculum and objectively and accurately assess the English proficiency of university students. Additionally, it serves the purpose of improving the quality of English language teaching in Chinese universities.
