The total score of the English CET-4 (College English Test-4) is 710 points, which consists of four sections: writing, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and translation. Each section is worth a certain percentage of the total score, as follows: writing 15% (maximum 106.5 points), listening comprehension 35% (maximum 248.5 points), reading comprehension 35% (maximum 248.5 points), and translation 15% (maximum 106.5 points).
The CET-4 is a national English exam supervised by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education. The main candidates for the exam are undergraduate students or graduate students who have completed the CET-4 curriculum according to the syllabus. The standardized CET-4 and CET-6 (College English Test-6) exams were planned in late 1986 and officially implemented in 1987.
