After the reform of the CET-4 and CET-6 exams, the CET-4 exam for college students now includes four main sections: writing, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and translation. The weightings of these sections are as follows: writing 15%, listening comprehension 35%, reading comprehension 35%, and translation 15%. The listening comprehension section consists of short news, long conversations, and listening comprehension exercises. The reading comprehension section includes vocabulary understanding, long passages, and multiple-choice questions. The translation section mainly tests paragraph translation.
According to the weightings, it is recommended that the time allocation for each section be as follows: 30 minutes for writing, 30 minutes for listening comprehension, 40 minutes for reading comprehension, and 30 minutes for translation.
As for the registration requirements for the CET-4 exam, it is limited to undergraduate or graduate students who have completed their college English courses according to the curriculum at a regular four-year or higher education institution. Students with equivalent qualifications from junior colleges or graduate schools, with the consent of their respective schools, are also eligible to register for the exam. Additionally, evening or correspondence college students with equivalent qualifications, with the consent of their respective schools, are allowed to register for the exam.
Starting from the January 2007 exam, the CET-4 and CET-6 exams will no longer be open to the general public, but will only be accessible to current college students.
