loft是什么意思

Loft, derived from the old warehouses in the Soho area of New York City, refers to a type of living space that combines both office and residential functions. It became popular among impoverished designers and artists who could not afford to rent apartments or office buildings. These lofts typically have small floor plans and are two-storied, ranging from approximately 30-50 square meters in size with ceiling heights varying from 3.6 to 5.2 meters. Although the sales are calculated based on a single floor, the actual usable area can be double the sales area due to the utilization of vertical space. With its unique and diverse layout, loft apartments offer a much lower price per unit area compared to regular residential units. Their small size, coupled with affordable prices, has made them the preferred choice for young people nowadays.
